Does our Onam celebration shell in T.V channels now?

Ask someone old, may be our parents or grandparents, how was the onam celebrations in their time? It was a time, unlike now, without the influence of the t.v. channels and programs. Everyone used to prepare for the festival in advance and put all efforts to make it as a memorable one. For them it was not just a celebration, but, like a thanks giving ceremony for all blessings and prosperity showered upon them.

What happened today? Today’s onam celebrations are planed by tv channels. Our role is to watch the better program available in tv. Today’s onam doesn’t last in memories. It is short lived in the memories of us. The virtuous way of handling the Onam preparation is history today. I do not know how many families really follow the olden rituals for our states festival. Today it becomes more or less fun.

We younger generation has to understand the facts behind this celebration and the holistic effort put by our forefathers. We should dig out the values behind this festival and celebrate it meaningfully from the heart. Unless and until, we are just mocking our state, our culture that means mocking and having fun of ourselves.
